HDU sign installation: what changes between a shipped sign and a finished field installation
HDU is lightweight compared with many traditional sign substrates, but installation still depends on sign size, wind exposure, wall construction, posts, monument structure, electrical components and local code.
Common installation approaches
Wall-mounted dimensional sign
Mounting may use concealed studs, stand-offs, structural anchors or a backing panel depending on the wall and sign construction.
Post-and-panel
Posts, brackets, footings and ground conditions matter as much as the HDU panel itself.
Monument application
The HDU face may be only one component attached to a larger masonry, fabricated or framed monument structure.
Shipped sign / local installer
A manufacturer may fabricate and ship nationally while the buyer hires a local sign contractor for survey, permits and installation.

- Who is responsible for site survey and final field dimensions?
- Does the installer need engineered attachment details?
- Are posts, brackets, frames or fasteners included?
- Who handles permits and utility-location requirements?
- Is electrical work part of the scope?
- How will the sign be packaged and transferred to the installer?
A strong national HDU fabricator can be the right choice even if it does not install in your city. The key is defining the handoff between manufacturer and local sign contractor before the sign is built.
